Update on Emergency Dredging of Tampa Bay Main Federal Channel:

To all Port Tampa Bay agents, pilots and mariners:

As you may have heard, the US Army Corps of Engineers (ACOE) recently published their latest soundings for the Tampa Bay Main Federal Channel, which resulted in a temporary draft restriction.  The ACOE has acknowledged this is an emergency dredge situation and they are mobilizing Great Lakes Dock and Dredge to bring in the hopper dredge “Terrapin” to clear the shoaled area between Mullet Key Channel and F-Cut Channel.  The Terrapin is scheduled to arrive May 15th and the ACOE estimates that it will take approximately 14 days to complete this work.   Port Tampa Bay’s Engineering/Survey Department will be conducting the post-dredge surveys in the wake of the Terrapin so that the draft restriction can be removed immediately after the dredging is completed on/about May 29th.

Our Port Engineering and Operations team will be closely following the ACOE’s dredging work and will provide regular updates until its completion.  Please, communicate this information to any interested parties.
